By now the entire movie going junta knows what Chameli is all about and who is Chameli!
It is Kareena Kapoor!
Everyone also knows what is that stormy night all about and who is the stranger whom Chameli meets!
It is Rahul Bose !!
But does everyone know who the voice of Chameli is in 'Chameli'?
Who is that female voice who lends her voice in all the tracks of 'Chameli'?
Whose voice modulates itself for each and every situation and feel in the movie?
It is Sunidhi Chauhan's voice!
'Chameli', a Pritish Nandi Communications presentation is the last work of Anant Balani who unfortunately expired when the movie rolled. Later Sudhir Mishra (Calcutta Mail) took over the reins of direction. Irshad Kamil is the lyricist while Sandesh Shandilya composes the music who is in great form once again!
Opening composition of the movie is an extremely melodious number - 'Bhaage Re Mann'. A beautiful number all the way, it has soulful music and lovable lyrics. Sunidhi is excellent in this number to which Kareena is at her expressive best. Her eyes say everything while her moves make one want for more. A good number!
Comes next another highly melodious track - 'Jaane' by Udit Narayan and Sunidhi Chauhan which is marked by some very good music. Based on saxophones tune throughout, it is a good love song that gets on you instantly. Sunidhi also sings the solo of the same number which one doesn't mind listening to repeatedly. Saxophone tunes by Tala form the 'Soul of Chameli' which is again based on the very same track - 'Jaane'. But wait, that's not all. Sunidhi seems to have liked this song so much (and rightly so!) that she returns to sing a duet again - this time with Javed Ali, who does a good job too. Bored, are you? Nope, because you are enjoying being hooked on this soothing track.
Sunidhi returns to her Mariah Carrey mode in 'Yeh Lamha' written by Prof. R.N.Dubey and sings in her trademark high pitched pop mode. Though the number is fair, it doesn't match up the melody set in the other tracks of the album.
But what surprises you completely is the sole masala track of the album - 'Sajna Ve Sajna'! A dance bar item number, it is hard to believe that it is indeed sung by Sunidhi. Such is her voice modulation in this track that in first hearing it seems to be Pakistani singer Reshma's voice more than anyone else. Apart from just the voice, it is also Sandesh Shandilya's composition that catches attention. It's good to see that despite the setup of this number, it still refrains itself from being down market or vulgar in it's content and makes for a good listening.
Though the music has not caught up in a big way due to the selective audience for such a movie theme, it needs to be mentioned that it is a good attempt by the entire musical team of Chameli. It makes romantic mood on a rainy day when you just have your loved one besides you and no one else.
The best work of Sunidhi Chauhan so far!
