Trust the youngsters to do something new every time they get an oppurtunity !! So here we have a group, aged 30-something, coming together and floating a production house - CROSSOVER FILMS. With Nirja Shah as producer and Deepa Sahi, Parvati Balgopalan (who also doubles up as a director) and the wonder-eyes Milind Soman as co-producers, Rules (Pyar Ka Superhit Formula) is the first foray into movies by Crossover Films. Starring Milind Soman, newcomer Meera Vasudevan, model Namrata Barua and veteran Tanuja, Rules has music by Sandesh Shandilya (K3G, Road, Agnivarsha) and lyrics by Subrat Sinha and Prof. R.N. Dubey.
One reads the credits for lyrics as Subrat Sinha and Prof. R.N. Dubey and wonders that what exactly would there be in store. But what surprises is the very high quality of these lyrics that are indeed different from the oh-so-routine 'Dil Vil Pyaar Vyaar' stuff !! Just listen to 'Uljhano Ko De Diya' and you want it to just go on and on !! A song about a girl proposing love to her dream lover, it is an excellent track, has superb lyrics, smooth flow of music and elevated to greater heights due to Sanjeevani's (Chori Chori Jab - Kareeb, Nikamma - Kya Dil Ne Kaha) honey-soaked vocals !!
'Pyaar Ke Naam Pe' by Bombay Vikings is a jazzy number that starts off in English and then settles with Hindi !! A foot tapping number, it is pretty likeable and makes you smile throughout. A number to sing to your sweetheart on a rainy day !!
Album diverts a bit from here with the fusion number - 'Gori Tere Nain', which is - obviously - about appreciation of the eyes of the 'gori'. An avearage number sung well by Sonu Nigam, it has poetic lyrics by Prof. R.N. Dubey !! Club remix of the same (by Jatin Sharma), which seems to be forced, also appears and does an OK job as a gap filler !!
There is a beautiful piece of orchestra (in the style of an opera track) as Radha's (name of the heroine in the movie) theme !! Appearing twice in the album, it is a smooth track which just goes on and on and is pretty impressive !! Applause for Sandesh Shandilya for coming out with such an experiment.
After 'Ujhano Ko...', another lovely track that makes a mark is 'Chhodo Na Mujhe' which is a sweet little romantic number about a guy asking for his lady love to stay with him forever and ever !! Lyricist Subrat Sinha does a good job here in being simple in his approach and Kunal Ganjawala (who recently sung 'Tu' in Mumbai Matinee) sings like a boy-next-door deeply in love. Overall, a very good number again !!
'Rules' is mainly about a granny Tanuja who teaches her grand-daughter Meera about how to 'pataofy' a guy to fall in love with her by following some 'Rules'. It has to be seen that how this is made possible in the movie, but it is for sure that the team of 'Rules' has certainly found the 'Superhit Formula' for composing some real good sweet'n'simple love tracks !!
This is for your loved one !!
