  Music Reviews
By Joginder Tuteja, December 30, 2002 - 10:25 IST

Titles, with a caption to boast of, continue with Baaz. The caption saying - A Bird In Danger. B-ABID - an interesting title nevertheless, the star pairing is unique too with Karisma Kapoor (who supposedly choosy, still does a Rishtey !!), Dino Morea (who had a 50-50 year 2002 with no. 1 HIT Raaz and ultra flop Gunaah), Suneil Shetty (who finally had 2002 ending with super-duper hit Kaante), Jackie Shroff (who still has a market of his own regardless of the commercial performance of his flicks) and Preeti Jhangiani (who may like to forget 2002, what with Waah Tera Kya Kehna and Annarth going nowhere !!). Action director Tinu Verma, who delivered GOD-KNOWS-SOME-PATRIOTISM in Sunny Deol starrer Maa Tujhe Salaam earlier this year, produces his first film B-ABID and also directs. A thriller, Karisma (obviously !!) plays the girl in danger, but who is the Baaz, that's for the audience to find out. Aditi Gowatrikar, who also has a Dhundh lined up early 2003, makes a guest appear ance. The 'jodi' of Ismail Darbar and Mehboob combine again to compose for B-ABID.

Just last week we were talking about Sadhana Sargam singing an opening track for a movie (Kucch To Hai). She does the same again in Baaz where she renders Aey Subha, first as a duet with Roop Kumar Rathod and then a solo. Dunno why, but Ismail Darbar tends to compose a love song in such a way that it appears to be a cry of pain and anguish rather then being sentimental !! Same happens here as well when the track completely lacks in evoking any feeling of love. A perfect song for the smokers in the theatre !! Tujhe Paake by Kavita Subramaniam and Mohammed Salamat is mariginally better but that's all. Again, not a number that can guarantee super-sales of the album.

'Chehre Pe' by Sukhwinder Singh, Sadhna Sargam and Shaan is a fast number but Ismail Darbar fails to capitalize on the vocals at his disposal. Rather the matured singers just finish the number in a jiffy with no interest in the proceedings whatsoever. A forgettable number which doesn't stand any chance.

'Sannate Mein' is a track that has been designed to scare but hardly manages to do so. Though the opening orchestra of the number is good, the effect just goes 'futt' once the vocals take over. They just dilute the dark atmosphere created by the music and one senses that it would have been better if there was just an instrumental and some chorus to support the situation rather than having a full fledged song to make an impression. Harmony by Clinton, Kunal and Gaytri does give some stability to the track but Sunidhi Chauhan and Vijay Prakash, in their respective versions, do not contribute much. Something that haunts forever, like the title song from Gupt is composed just once in a few years!!!

The only track that add some value to an otherwise insipid score of Baaz is the foot-tapping 'Arre Arre Jala Koi Mita Koi', which as such no great shakes, is still singled out because at best it is passable. Sunidhi Chauhan is at her own to some extent though even this is meant just for the front benchers. A situational track, it is one of those 'banjaara' kind of number that come with the movie and go !! Just in order to fill up the album (to reach that mandatory 8 tracks milestone) and increase it's sales prospects, even this number is repeated twice.

Music score of Baaz - A Bird In Danger seemed to be promising at the onset due to Ismail Darbar's tag attached to it and a unique casting. But Ismail sorely disappoints !! All the good work done for Devdas may be wiped out with B-ABID, which should very well be his third commercial failure in a row after Shakti and Deewangee.
