2002 should belong to Vikram Bhatt. Raaz is still
running to packed houses and soon to be released AMALL
is carrying excellent reports. And now comes the first
multistarrer of his carrer - Awara Paagal Deewana
(APD) which stars three hero-heroine pairs, Akshay
Kumar - Aarti Chabaria, Aftab Shivdasani - Preeti
Jhangiani and Sunil Shetty - Amrita Arora. In fact
all the three girls are very much new to the film line
and are just one film old each. Aarti has acted in
Tumse Accha Kaun Hai, Preeti was one of the crowd in
Mohabbatein and Amrita Arora had a recent release in
Kitne Door Kitne Paas. Akshay Kumar is at the peak of
his career, Aftab has a moderate hit in Kya Yehi Pyaar
Hai but it is Sunil Shetty, who is badly in need of a
hit. This is Aftab's second movie with Vikram Bhatt
after Kasoor which has been the biggest hit of Aftab
so far.
Producer Firoz A. Nadiadwala has roped in action
coordinators of Hollowood flick 'The Matrix' to
choreograph the action squences of APD whereas Anu
Maliik composes its music and Sameer writes the
lyrics. All the songs in APD are the rehashed tunes of
Anu Maliik's earlier tunes, that too not necessarily
his hit tunes. Even the lyrics in any of the tracks
are anything but great.
'Jise Hasna Rona Hai' is an average number which has
the chorus 'singing' the same way as the title track
from Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega. Six singers Sonu Nigam,
Udit Narayan, Shaan, Alka Yagnik, Sarika Kapoor and
Sunidhi Chauhan lend their vocals for all the six lead
actors on which this number has been picturized.
'Maine To Khai Kasam' is a very weak song with the
chorus causing even more irritation. Abhijeet sings in
his 'Woh Ladki Jo Sabse Alag Hai' (Baadshah) hangover
and even Sunidhi Chauhan too doesn't impress much.
'More Sawariya' is designed in the 'Tun Tunak Tun'
(Hera Pheri) mode. It is a poppish number sung by
Sunidhi Chauhan (who gets to sing five out of the six
numbers), Shaan and Anu Maliik himself but doesn't
have even half the punch of superbly composed 'Tun
Tunak Tun'. Yes, the choreography of this number is
bound to be lavish as the arrangements are quite grand
and only that may elevate it's prospects. Excuse me,
but what is this instrumental 'Love Theme' as one of
the tracks in APD. It has some peculiar vocal of a
'foren' female that sounds nowhere close to being
romantic and by the time you realize that something
has begun, it ENDS. It hardly lasts for a few seconds
and to add to it, it is STRANGE !!!
Title number 'Awara Paagal Deewana' by Shaan and
Sunidhi Chauhan is one of those at least 100 romantic
tunes that Maliik saab has already made us listen
before. Won't deny that the number is passable but
that's it and that's all. Nothing more and nothing
less. 'Yeh Tune Kya Kiya' has Anuradha Paudwal
repeating her 'Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain' act.
Sonu Nigam gives her company in this stale number that
may be enjoyed by very few. No No No...we deserve
something better !!!
'Ya Habibi' - an Arabian number is one of the most
screechy ones ever composed for a Hindi film. Guess
what Adnan Sami is doing here who himself sounds very
half-hearted while singing this one which has Shaan
and Sunidhi Chauhan giving him company.
This is probably one of the weakest score of a Vikram
Bhatt flick. In fact the music of his lesser known
movies like Jaanam and Madhosh were better. And we
expected much-much better effort from Anu Maliik for
this mega-budget movie. An absloute downer !!!
