Subject of the movie - A Historical - Bollywood's most
untouched territory
Hero - Shahrukh Khan - the most successful actor of
past 10 years.
Heroine - Kareena Kapoor - the most in-demand actress
of this generation.
Director - Santosh Sivan - India's most acclaimed
Cinematographer of today.
Lyricists - Gulzar and Anand Bakshi - Veterans whose
names are enough introductions about themselves.
Music director - Anu Malik - the most successful
composer since Baazigar.
And what happens when all of them combine together?
They deliver a masterpiece that goes by the name of
'Asoka'.
Asoka is something that one starts enjoying from the
word GO.
Here is one musical score that can be compared to Dil
Se. There won't be a single soul who may have disliked
the score of 'Dil Se'. So, if you have drooled over
'Jiya Jale', then how can you avoid 'Raat Ka Nasha' .
Melodious music, sensual vocals (Abhijeet,Chitra),
beautiful backdrops, excellent cinematography,
imaginative choreography (Farah Khan) cause such a
mesmerizing effect that one just can't get tired of
the show. Add to all this Kareena swaying to the tunes
and one wishes to be reborn in Asoka era.
And when one thinks that "Fine !! I have had my
money's worth with 'Raat Ka Nasha' ", then HOLD ON,
there is more to come. 'Roshni Se' (Abhijeet, Alka
Yagnik) is one number, which is in one word
'MINDBLOWING'. A perfect number to be played for your
'most dearest' on a candle night dinner. Switch off
all the lights, put on a candle, play the song at a low
volume and let the time just STOP. 'Roshni Se' can
easily be considered to be one of the best ever
romantic song composed and should be a very strong
contender for the best song of the year. Abhijeet
sounds splendid here and at places even reminds of
those dreamy songs which Kishoreda excelled in.
'San Sanana' (Alka Yagnik, Hema Sardesai) is about a
girl's desire for a perfect groom and makes for a good
listening. Anand Bakshi is the guest lyricist for this
particular song. 'O Re Kanchi' is sung by Shaan (the
boy is fast making his way higher up) and Alka Yagnik.
The song is rhythmic and is of the kind that were so
frequently picturized on Jeetendra - Asha Parekh -
Rajesh Khanna - Mumtaz and company.'Aa Taiyar Hoja' is
situational and a difficult composition but Sundihi
Chauhan does full justice to it.
Sandeep Chowta very successfully recreates the
historic times in 'Asoka Theme'. It should definitely
make an excellent impact when heard in DTS Dolby
effect in theaters. Check out for this one especially.
Overall Asoka is a fantastic and a must buy album.
Well done Shahrukh Khan and Juhi Chawla (Producers of
the movie) !!! When most of the Bollywood are
navigating through the tried and trusted masalas and
formulas, you have dared to do something different.
Thank you Anu Malik and Gulzar for giving us 'Roshni
Se' and 'Raat Ka Nasha' !! We won't mind more of such
!!!
