7 of 7 people found this review helpful John Abraham plays K and absolutely everything in the movie is from K's point of view. But, don't let that keep you away, even if you are wary of his acting skills. Because he is literally 'unbelievably' good. The transition from the self-obsessed, full-of-himself man to the person who has lost his grip was remarkable...

The movie technically one has one song in it. Vishal Bharadwaj's JAB BHI CIGARETTE JALTI HAI is unique, refreshing and addictive as always. Gulzar's lyrics fit the gel with the mood and tone well. The PHOONK DE track comes across as well and strange as well given it comes on after the end credits have rolled!

The film begins really well in Siberia and the curiosity builds up instantly. In fact the first half is really gripping. Baba Bengali's run-down institute is really imaginatively done and is a delight to watch. Some things are really out of the world and if you follow foreign cinema you will be able to associate with them.

0 of 1 people found this review helpful The one plot device that Kashyap perhaps overlooked is to have every character connected to the other, sometimes in multiple ways, as they are in Neil Gaiman's books. If he had done that 'No Smoking' would have been even more abstruse and obscure, an effect he seems to have been looking for.

Sir Kashyap, your genius is blinding. Thank you for Quitters’ Inc which you have set in Mumbai and Siberia. And if you ask me, at this very point, I don't want to quit smoking. I want to quit Kashyaping. See a Bhojpuri or a Blogpuri movie. Just don't do this to me sir, please, don’t. The rest of the world needs your brain. Ulp, I don't.

'No Smoking' by Anurag Kashyap is a movie that subtly aims to deliver a message of quitting cigarette smoking as it's injurious to health. The director's intention is good but he has not succeeded in conveying his message rightly. The film is a puzzling and frustrating experience.

No Smoking has an interesting thought and its treatment needed a kind of surreal yet scary absurdity. Like the Boman Irani - Saif Ali Khan short story in Ram Gopal Vama's 'Darna Mana Hai', which is its inspiration. But Kashyap doesn't get that right and No Smoking proves quite injurious to your mental health...

No Smoking does start of impressively, and manages to create an eerie atmosphere. Many questions pop up in your mind regarding the strange things happening in the film...

So that's one out of five for Anurag Kashyap's No Smoking, he's now a director who's earned the unique distinction of giving us both, one of the best and one of the worst films of the year.

'No Smoking' is a lame attempt at noir cinema. The movie, for the most part, has a surreal look. Sadly, the story makes no sense. Some of the sequences are truly over one's head...

There are films that are highly pretentious with no content to match that hype. No Smoking is a perfect example of such school. If director Anurag Kashyap and Producer Vishal Bhardwaj's aim was to tell the audiences to quit smoking, I don’t see that happening.

This is self-indulgent filmmaking. It's narcissistic and vain-glorious - that totally ignores the sort of audience that may end up watching it. It may be cheered at some out-of-the-way film festival - but it sure won't either at a suburban multiplex nor a tent cinema in Tamil Nadu or Bihar.
