THE FILM
Ajay Chandhok, the director of the film, has been as assistant to David Dhawan for quite a few films and that shows in a number of departments. First and foremost, what's visible on screen are those flashy colours that have been left behind in the 90s ever since Hero No. 1, Dulhan Hum Le Jaayenge and many such flicks used to be in vogue. Show audience a flashy mix of reds, yellows and blues today and it would be difficult to expect him/her to jump with joy.
Secondly, Chandhok picks up an entire thread from his mentor's Shola Aur Shabnam and makes it an integral part of his Team - The Force. Remember the part where Govinda kidnaps Divya Bharti? Here Sohail Khan does something similar with Amrita Arora to teach her goon brother (Sayaji Shinde) a lesson. 'Extortion is bad' - he says, 'Extortion kitne gharon ko barbaad kar deta hai' - he screams, 'Jab khud ki baari aati hai to kaise aadmi dar jaata hai' - he preaches. Sorry, but no one is interested even as Sohail Khan does a poor imitation of bhaiyya Salman Khan for the entire first half of the film.
So he jumps and dances with his friends Yash Tonk and Vrijesh Hirjee who have absolutely no contribution to the plot except running after Aarti Chabaria who disappears as soon as she has made an entry. After a pathetic tune by Daboo Malik, what else could have been expected from her who soon finds Amrita Arora as her 'big' replacement? Well, you can't expect her to be interested in the project as well after lip synching to a song which is as pure and bliss as it goes. Wanna know the lyrics? Well, they go as 'Kya Item Hai Re Baap'!
Baap re baap!
Anyways, the baap of all actors (at least the ones that have been roped in for the film) makes the proceedings somewhat watch able. Yes, it's Sayaji Shinde who ultimately brings in some humour to the film. Of course his act too is straight out of the 90s but one doesn't really mind that because he is the sole saving grace of the film. Majority of his dialogues get further spice due to the way he delivers them and his interaction with his wife is good enough to bring in some laughs.
However in the end it's all too predictable, what with even the finale location being straight out of David Dhawan's films. Remember Mukesh Mills? Some 'dhishoom dhishoom' resumes, 'maar-dhaad' follows and it's all a happy ending. Well, the same cannot be said about the viewer though who is exposed to yet another outing of 'Kya Item Hai Re Baap' as the end credits roll.
PS: If at all you care, the voice of a certain Kulbhushan Kharbanda (spelt as Kulbushan Kharbenda on the DVD cover) isn't his own as well as it has been dubbed by someone else. And yes, Vrijesh Hirjee too is credited as Rajesh Hirjee on the DVD cover. Oops!

CONCLUSION
If you look at the cast details above, Sayaji Shinde's name has been put before the heroes (if they can be called so). Reason? If at all Team - The Force is tolerable to some extent, that's due to presence of Sayaji Shinde who carries on from where he left in Shool and still scores. Truly, he is the sole mainstay of this otherwise dated flick which takes whichever direction it wishes to take, meanders all over it's near two hour duration, has a screenplay of convenience and in spite of being touted as a masala outing, just ends up as barely time pass.
