THE FILM

A film that promises chills and thrills, Raaz - the Mystery Continues comes to the point from the very opening scene that ensures that popcorn munching is the last thing you want to do as the entire concentration is centred on the proceedings on the screen. While the innovatively designed promos set the context right away about Kangna being a tormented young supermodel, Adhyayan being her love interest and Emraan being the man who would go all out to unfold the 'raaz', it is the brilliant storyline of the film which brings with it a shock element (something which anyways goes with the tag of Vishesh Films).

The joint effort of Mohit Suri and Shagufta Rafique (screenplay/dialogues) ensures that Raaz - The Mystery Continues is a new experience for the Indian audience. What turns out to be the best aspect of the film is the way all the characters find themselves intertwined into the plot. So it's not just Kangna who is the sufferer here with others trying to help her out. As it turns out, whether it is Kangna, Emraan or Adhyayan - all of them are linked to each other by one common thread that has passed their life at one junction or another. See the film and you will find it out for yourself. It is this smart element of the film's plot and narrative that makes you go wow as the picture starts becoming clearer.

If the start of the film is brilliant, the scenes to follow continue to make an impact as well with the arrival of Emraan Hashmi on the scene. It's his boyish-n-naughty charm coupled with the intense dramatic quotient that his character carries which makes Emraan the scene stealer whenever he appears on the frame. The songs are well placed as well with the least publicized 'Kaisa Yeh Raaz Hai' making the maximum impact due to its perfect placement in the narrative.

There is a portion in the middle of the film's second half when the pace slackens because after an elaborate built-up, one expects the mystery to be unveiled. The slight delay in this makes one restless. However, as the chapters start unfolding with each and every character being revealed as grey, one is left completely amazed with the intelligent plot. Yes, the climax turns out to be a little hackneyed but one doesn't mind that considering the overall entertainment factor that comes with Raaz - the Mystery Continues.

PACKAGING

The DVD comes in a decent paper and plastic box though one expected a far elaborate packaging for a film which is the biggest success of the year so far

DURATION

The film's duration is 137 minutes

SPECIAL FEATURES

In addition to a Director's Note (which appears on a still screen), the DVD also comes with a segment on 'Making of the Film'. Taking audience behind the scenes during the film's shooting, this segment also features routine talks from the cast and crew. However, the most impressive portion here is the one where the special effects being superimposed with the regular scenes are shown.

Day changing into night, artificial city coming out of nowhere, bulls emerging in the night, faces bearing blood marks and scratches, crowd of thousands being created - it is amazing to see how special effects played such a major role in giving a certain look to Raaz - The Mystery Continues. Added bonus is in the form of three music videos - 'O Jaana', 'Kaisa Yeh Raaz Hai' and 'Maahi'. While 'O Jaana' and 'Maahi' were quite prominent on the music channels, have a look at the lesser heard and seen 'Kaisa Yeh Raaz Hai'; it bears an international quality to it.

CONCLUSION

Last few months gone by have been terrific for horror films. If 2008 had Phoonk and 1920 turning out to be surprise successes, then it was hardly surprising to see Raaz - The Mystery Continues turning out to be the only bona fide hit of 2009 so far. And why not? The makers (Bhatt brothers) did an excellent job in promoting the film, the songs were chartbuster material yet again, Emraan Hashmi is a name to reckon with today while Kangna has been a consistent performer over the years. And to top it all, director Mohit Suri is a name that spells a quality product (his last film Awarapan being a testimony to that). No wonder, Raaz - The Mystery Continues was a film that couldn't have gone wrong. And thankfully, it didn't!
