Why Swades girl Gayatri won't do any film…

… Until the 17th of December, that is, when Swades releases. Ashutosh likes it that way. Quiz him why and the low-profile maker says, “If Gayatri signs up another movie, the makers might want to flash her in minis. Now that doesn't necessarily suit the character of Geeta that I m trying to present in the film. That's the reason I put the clause in her contract” he defends. This is not the first in the Gowariker camp. Earlier he had tied Gracy Singh to a similar clause where she was forbidden from taking on other assignments.
Ashutosh further adds, “Had Lagaan not happened, Gracy would still have been circulating on television. Also, she got to pair with Aamir, which I think is wonderful for a first-timer. Besides, she was brilliant in Lagaan. You can't really pin blame on her if her future projects didn't work. Gracy is a good actress and she'll find her way to the top”
And what's his comment on Gayatri? “Well, she too was a television face. I am sure she doesn't regret debuting opposite Shahrukh” he teases us. “The moment Swades releases, she is free to take on any which project that she pleases, no objection whatsoever” he sums up his argument.
